Dr. Jeffrey Handschumacher, O.D.

Our primary eye doctor, Dr. Jeffrey Handschumacher has been practicing optometry in North Carolina since 1999–specializing in primary eye care and contact lenses. He is certified in the treatment and management of ocular disease by the International Association of Boards of Examiners in Optometry, and is a member of the American Optometric Association, the North Carolina State Optometric Society, and the American Academy of Orthokeratology and Myopia Control (AAOMC).

After receiving his bachelor of science degree from Bowling Green State University, Dr. Handschumacher went to the Illinois College of Optometry where he graduated with a doctorate in optometry in 1998. His clinical training includes internships at the Veterans Hospitals in Cleveland, OH, and Martinsburg, WV, with a post-doctorate residency at the Cleveland VA Hospital.

During his time at Cleveland, he received extensive optometry training in the areas of ocular disease and geriatrics. He also has extensive experience in diagnosing and managing eye disease including diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, cataracts, and macular degeneration.

Dr Handschumacher specializes in Contact Lenses (such as Scleral Contact Lenses) to help people with Keratoconus, Irregular Astigmatism, and other corneal irregularities see to their maximum potential.

He currently resides in Rolesville with his wife and son.

In his spare time, Dr Handschumacher enjoys officiating at his son’s swim meets for the Marlins of Raleigh and at various USA Swimming swim meets across North Carolina.
